Boris Childerstone

Amaranthine

Boris Childerstone is a Bristol and Oxfordshire based photographer creating work surrounding ideas of identity and self. This work uses a wide range of subjects and techniques to portray ideas such as performative identity, masking and escapism. The artist is constantly looking for new ways in which they can reinvent their style as well as experiment in new mediums, their work often being play based character explorations highly theatrical in nature, incorporating themes of both gender expression and queerness. Boris’ current project is an exploration of how we view change and our relation to it, creating landscapes from constantly morphing environments to escape into and explore.

Amaranthine. To be unfading or undying, derived from the mystical Amaranth flower, a flower whose petals are said to never wither. In my own work however, my subjects are contrast to this, fleeting organic forms of blackened ink, constantly in a state of abstract metamorphosis, within them each their own unique microcosm. The work is an attempt to navigate those landscapes and bodies, within that exploring my own relation to change and in the process giving myself and the audience an opportunity to lose oneself within a fleeting instant in time.
