Ava Davis
Ava Davis uses the photographic medium to examine societal tensions around gender, identity, and isolation. Drawing upon her own experiences, their practice combines performance and the macabre to construct ambiguous narratives that expose a complex inner world.
As society enters a period of uncertainty increasingly people feel lost, becoming untethered to their physical environment. Searching for connection in hollow places, ‘Crawe’s Nest’ examines the experience of Maladaptive Daydreaming disorder, a form of disassociation where the desire for escapism becomes detrimental to the individual’s relationship to a fixed reality. Turning the gaze inward, the work combines portraiture and still life to form an unsettling narrative within the confines of the House.
